This weekend I attended my second Spartan Race Training session and the final one before the upcoming Beast. For anyone unfamiliar with the sessions, they are lead by Spartan Head Coach MichaelCohen who introduces the participants to a range of techniques that will be useful on any obstacle course race, with his main motto being "race fit... race safe... race ready!"
In the video below you'll get a fair idea of what to expect from the four hour sessions. Being based at Pippingford, home of the upcoming Beast, there were plenty of terrain features and man made obstacles to practice on. The highlight was the "jungle gym" which included balance beams, slack lines, monkey bars and rope climbs. Anyway, see for yourself, here's how the advanced class went:
Although there's a heavy focus on technique, there was also a fair amount of time devoted to wearing the group out and, with it being a four hour session, it help to build stamina for what is expected to be a gruelling Spartan Beast course.
