Calling all race directors – do you put on a timed junior race that we could use in a new, Mudstacle Junior League? Then WE NEED TO TALK.
After running a successful UK OCR league for adults, we are keen to celebrate the talent of junior racers that are competing in OCR at a high level. The difficulty with running any league, as you probably know, is that the participating races have to want to be involved, and have to be able to provide fair results to us in good time to keep the league updated.
The issue we have always had with creating a junior league is that we need results to be verifiable. There are some great junior races out there, and kids are tearing up the courses, but with multiple, untimed waves over a day, making sense of the results is an impossible task. In our adult league this has meant that chip timing is essential to league qualification, but we would be interested to hear if your race produces fair, verifiable results via alternative methods.
We are looking to run a Mudstacle Junior League, initially for 13-17 year olds, but if we get scope to lower the age limit, we will. Do your races allow participation of athletes aged 13+? Do you have a junior wave, or separate kids race? Get in touch. It won’t cost you anything, and could potentially encourage and inspire a new generation of competitive junior OCR athletes!
If you’re a parent of a budding OCR star, or if you yourself are a Junior OCR racer in your own right, please share our call with races that you think could give you a platform on which to compete.
With your help, the #MudstacleJuniorLeague could be a reality…
Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have a verifiable result on your junior race.
