Settle in, this one looks like it's going to be killer.
We don’t doubt that northern favourite Total Warrior broke some hearts when they announced that they would not be returning to their Shap Venue, but this could be a move that creates one of the best weekenders of the OCR calendar.
TW will be taking over Bramham Park, Leeds from Friday 21st June, with events all weekend long. With considerably easier access, getting in and out of the venue is going to make for a really smooth process, setting you up for the perfect weekend of frolics and fun.
It’s going to be a whole new animal, with further race formats in the shape of a new half - a 6km course taking in 15 obstacles that’s even suitable for the kids (14+). Add this to the classic 12km, the ultra and the 3km junior course for 6-13 year olds, and you’ve got a real family outing on your hands. This way, the enthusiasts can attack the classic and/or the ultra course, while the more tentative amongst us can hit the half, all while keeping the kids excited and entertained. It’s the perfect mix of distances and activities, all in one place.
Something that’s going to be pretty exciting is that the first wave of the main, 12km course will kick off on the Friday night at 7.41, allowing the swiftest of us to beat the Summer Solstice sunset at 9.41. So it’s straight out of the office and into the fire (yes, the literal fire. It’s a great photo opportunity.) If you don’t feel like you’ll be off the course by the cutoff of 10pm, then that’s okay, because the festival kicks off again proper on Saturday morning.
The event village, where you can settle in AND CAMP for the first time, will comprise local food vendors, the famous tune trucks, a stretch zone and most importantly, a ‘Mini Warrior’ Zone to cater to the kids. There’ll be school and Scout takeovers of the revamped Junior Warrior on Thursday and Friday leading into the weekend, making TW 2019 the largest mass participation sports event in Yorkshire.
Those nice people at TW are running a promotional launch price until midnight on Thursday 22nd November, so there’s still time to get in there early and secure your spot. We’re planning some funstacle times on the weekend too, if that will sweeten the deal for you!
