Agree with everything said above. +1 for removing them from the sport.

Same here. I melted when the sun came out. Stopped once to retie my laces and the sweat was running off my nose, not dripping, actually running like a stream *blurgh*
Have to admit that i walked up most of the big hill slaloms. Manage to run up to the bracken line every time, but queues and gradient meant a full run up was out of the question.

I switched to Darn Tough socks after similar grit issues and have never looked back. Personally use the 1/4 length

but most of theirs have got good reports -

Just the London one at the moment Andy, but have pre-registered for the ICE one (whenever they decide to run it again). Does Stockholm have that dirty great ski slope cargo net or is that in Oslo?
Confirmed overseas trips are Reborn In Hell @ Horsens (Denmark) in a couple of weeks and Mud Masters @ Weeze (Germany) in May 2016. July’s a bit empty…[Read more]

I’m doing a few European events over the next 12 months and have found the following useful:

Of course, if really want to spend some money, Spartan Race do continental events too.Let us know where you’re going and i…[Read more]

I can see why football boots would help for OCRs, ballroom dancing and sex, but changing a lightbulb? Surely speedos, marigolds & ab oil is all you need there!

I’ll be there in the 11:40 wave. Will have a non-Mudstacle buddy tagging along but don’t let that put you off coming over to say hello… if they get surrounded by enough yellow they may absorb it by osmosis.
Just the one flag Phil!

Cheers for the tip Phil, the lack of sun heat never occurred to me. I’d love to say that running faster would compensate but let’s be realistic eh? 🙂
Nuclear’s great Lee. I’ve done the 16k Fallout before and it was excellent. The event’s really well organised and their levels of mud are legendary.

I’ll be there for the Blackout Lee.
Never done it before so I’m making sure there are fresh batteries in the head torch!! -

It’s on my list of “things to sign up for” this weekend. I wonder what they’ll make of Pippingford?

Steve Platt replied to the topic Topless OCR Running in the forum General Discussion 5 years, 5 months ago
Good point Delyth. I wrote my piece without thinking about gender or experience, and focussed more on the competitive runner than the fun runner (if we’re going for these categories). So I guess it is mainly from a guys POV. Put scabby knees & shorts on a guy & a girl and I’m sure the reactions would be different.

Like you Bigbars I get really hot really quickly, only breaking out the long sleeves from Nov to Jan, and while I run with a tech-tee/vest I totally agree with what you’re saying. ProTip for laundry: rinse with a garden hose before washing (if you’ve got a garden & a hose!)
Definitely like the last 2 points you make. Trying to run an OCR with…[Read more]

Steve Platt replied to the topic Mudstacle insurance – cover abroad? in the forum General Discussion 5 years, 7 months ago
Hi Alex,
I had a close look at the Mudstacle insurance last year when I went to the USA to do a Spartan Beast. My recollection is that there is wording in the document that specifies global coverage. Fortunately I didn’t have cause to use it.
Obviously it could have changed in the interim so I’d recommend looking at the fine print in the…[Read more]

Steve Platt replied to the topic How to Display Headbands in the forum Gear Discussion 5 years, 7 months ago
I don’t tend to keep the Spartan numbered headbands but the few TM ones that I have are wrapped around the least embarrassing soft toy we’ve got (Digby the rugby ball…don’t ask!), which is kept on a shelf in the living room.
It’s a conversation piece!

Steve Platt replied to the topic Shorts to spare a lady's blushes in the forum Gear Discussion 5 years, 8 months ago
I’ll add my vote to compression shorts under something durable.
My preference is for rugby shorts. They’re really durable, but do weigh a little more than options suggested by others in the thread (I spent several years playing so don’t really notice the extra weight).
Sports Direct sell them fairly cheaply. -
Steve Platt replied to the topic Spartan sprint in the forum Event Discussion 5 years, 8 months ago
Hi Conrad. I’ll be there in, also in the 11am wave, also flying the Mudstacle flag (not literally sadly)
I’ve done plenty of Sprints before but never a stadium event. Just hoping they don’t send us up & down the stadium steps too often, really don’t like the idea of that. - Load More
